Authorities shutdown the Seven Mile Bridge on Monday afternoon after two vehicles collided on it.

The head-on collision, with injuries, occurred shortly before 2 p.m. on Monday, Monroe County Sheriff's spokesman Adam Linhardt said. One of the vehicles was a private ambulance transporting a patient.

Traffic was shutdown in both directions, Linhardt said. It was unclear on Monday afternoon how long the bridge would be closed. Some of the victims of the crash were being flown by air ambulance to a Miami hospital.
