MARATHON — Gov. Ron DeSantis has appointed Key West attorney James “Jimmy” Morgan to the Middle Keys county judge position vacated by Judge Ruth Becker, who retired in July.

Morgan is chief of staff for Spottswood Hotels in Key West and has been an attorney in Florida since 2009.

Morgan will fill out the remainder of Becker’s term, which expires in 2024.

“I am honored by the appointment by Gov. Ron DeSantis and look forward to serving the people of the state of Florida and the people of Monroe County,” Morgan said.

Morgan received notification of the appointment last Wednesday and traveled to the state capital in Tallahassee on Thursday to receive his letter of appointment from the DeSantis’ general counsel and a state Supreme Court judge, Morgan said.
