DUCK KEY — Florida Department of Transportation inspectors have found that three interior island bridges on Duck Key are deteriorating faster than anticipated, which has prompted new weight restrictions, according to Monroe County spokeswoman Kristen Livengood.
Bimini Bridge now has a 3-ton weight limit, and Harbor Drive and Seaview bridges each have a 10-ton limit.
Monroe County staff is accelerating the bidding and contracting for the Bimini Bridge replacement, which is in the final stages of the design process, Livengood said Monday. The county is also looking at ways to provide alternative and interim solutions regarding services, repairs and replacements.
More details will be made available as they become available.
