NEW SWITLIK OPENS

Monroe County Schools Superintendent Theresa Axford, center left, and School Board Chairman John Dick cut the ribbon Tuesday celebrating the opening of the new Stanley Switlik school in Marathon. The school also is celebrating 50 years of educating students in the Middle Keys. The event, which wasn’t open to the public, was a student-centered program, with alumni, parents and dignitaries enjoying songs, poems and comments performed by the students. A time capsule was created and will be buried on the grounds to be opened in 2046.
