While traffic along U.S. 1 in the Florida Keys increases this time of year with more visitors seeking warmer weather, it will be further impacted by events this weekend and mid-week.

The annual Big Pine and Lower Keys Nautical Expo is from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 15, and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 16. It is held on the grounds of the Lower Keys Chamber of Commerce at Mile Marker 31 on Big Pine Key.

Motorists are reminded U.S. 1 traffic will be slow during those times due to increased traffic and are asked to be patient and extra cautious of pedestrians crossing the highway near that area due to limited parking.

On Wednesday and Thursday, Jan. 19-20, a video production crew will be filming along U.S. 1, which will also impact traffic.

The crew will be filming on the Seven-Mile Bridge and Sugarloaf Key between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Jan. 19, and they will also be filming near Tavernier Creek between 8 a.m. and noon on Jan. 20.

Motorists are asked to plan ahead and expect slowdowns during these times.
