Fire prevention celebrated

Last year, Monroe County Fire Rescue and Sparky the Fire Dog joined students at Ocean Studies Charter School in Tavernier.

Monroe County Fire Rescue teamed up with the National Fire Protection Association to promote this year’s Fire Prevention Week campaign, “Serve Up Fire Safety in the Kitchen!”

The campaign works to educate everyone about simple but important actions they can take to keep themselves and those around them safe.

Monroe County Fire Rescue did outreach programs for Fire Prevention Week, Oct. 4-10, in Monroe County schools and daycares. The Monroe County Fire Marshal and crews visited seven schools to help students and children practice how to cook safely in the kitchen, as well as have a meet and greet with Sparky the Fire Dog, and a fire truck tour.
