Reconsider ship restrictions

The restriction of “one ship only” in Key West at any one time virtually eliminates the “small ships” as possible visitors to our waterfront and our city.

These upscale visitors to our city are the most likely to return to take up residency in our upscale properties and buy more expensive gifts, art and meals in the future.

Our total visitation of small ships, should you amend Resolution 22-073 and its “one ship policy” restrictions, is currently estimated to be 20 to 25 ships per year. That number is based on the premise that you apply the standard set forth in the 2020 referendum: passenger ships with 1,300 or fewer persons may dock at Mallory.

Reconsidering the restrictions would ensure that the Mallory Dock would receive 20 to 25 ships a year and the city and its merchants would profit and our historic docks at Mallory Square would remain in business.

As it is today makes little or no sense.
